Explore Tanis

The kitchen takes center stage, blending seamlessly into the sunny courtyard, blushing with bougainvillea. The organic open-plan living and dining space integrates with the master bedroom via exposed brick archways, and links to an opulent bathroom with sunken bathtub and a natural stone shower. There's also a second separate en-suite bedroom overlooking the courtyard. There is also one sofa bed which can accommodate one more quest.

Photographers love this house for its light - thanks to the high-vaulted ceilings throughout - and it has even been featured in interior design coffee table books and numerous glossy publications. The decor is clean and smooth; its creamy white hues decorated with little treasures from the local potter. Truly, a home away from home.

Explore the beautiful Island of Santorini

Santorini is considered to be one of the most cosmopolitan destination in Greece. Exquisitely clear waters nearby the massive active volcano in the middle of the sea combines a unique place for romantic holidays. In addition, the island has a growing reputation as a “wedding destination” for couples not only from Greece but from all over the world.

History of Santorini

According to legend, Santorini emerged from the depths of the sea- opinion justified by the timeless activity of the undersea volcano and the geological topography of the island.

The first human remains, dating back to the Stone Age, show that the island has been inhabited since the prehistoric times. There is some evidence of life in the early Bronze Age, in the mid-3rd millennium BC, during the second period of the early Cycladic civilization (2.800 - 2.100 BC). However, from the middle Bronze Age (1.900-1.600 BC), evidence becomes more abundant, showing great development.

In the area of Akrotiri (Promontory), there was a prehistoric settlement with a very important port. The great volcanic eruption in the late Bronze Age (ca.1600 BC) buried the settlement under 30 metres of ash.

Museums

• Museum of Prehistoric Thera: Its special contents are masterpieces of art in the prehistoric Aegean, such as the famous wall paintings and the unique gold ibex figurine. The museum houses finds from the excavations at Akrtotiri, conducted under the auspices of the Archaeological Society at Athens, the earlier excavations at Potamos, made by members of the German Archaeological Institute at Athens, and rescue excavations at various other sites on the island, carried out by the 21st Ephorate of Antiquities.

The exhibition endeavors to sketch the course of Thera in prehistoric times, through selected finds from the thousands in the storerooms. This was a dynamic and creative course which established the city at Akrotiri as one of the most important Aegean centres during the 18th and 17th centuries B.C.
